Police want you to keep water safety in mind this spring in Haliburton

With fast flowing water rushing at ice cold temperatures, there is a deadly danger on rivers in Muskoka.

The OPP wants to make sure you’re being safe if you are on or near the water this spring.

Sergeant Steve Mihills with Snowmobile, ATV and Vessel Enforcement says being near the edge of a river can be risky.

He says, if you are headed out on the water for a ride or to open your cottage or summer home, be prepared.

Mihills says the mix of cold and fast water will make it very difficult for someone to swim if they fall in.

He says you should always let someone know if you’re going near a river or lake or if you’re heading out on the water and when you’re expecting to be back.

He says search and rescue crews will have a better chance at saving a life if they know where to loo
