Health unit reminding travelers to get caught up on vaccinations

Haliburton travelers are being reminded to get caught up on vaccinations. The Haliburton-Kawartha-Pine Ridge District Health Unit says that’s especially true if you’re traveling outside of Canada.

The health unit says it strongly recommends being up-to-date on all routine vaccinations, and getting special vaccines to protect against travel-related illnesses. It says some of those special shots require multiple doses, so it’s important to plan ahead.

Canada’s interim Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, is also specifically recommending travelers get vaccinated for measles. That’s because several cases of Canadians picking up the disease in other countries have been reported.

The health unit says depending on where you’re going there could be health risks that you wouldn’t be exposed to at home.

Go to the Travel Canada website for a list of travel vaccines broken down by country.
