Haliburton Highland Health Services face physician recruiting faces challenges; uncertainty over funding from province

It was a great year for Haliburton Highlands Health Services, but there are challenges going forward.

C.E.O. Carolyn Plummer says that she is glad Ontario’s budget is giving a two percent increase to small hospitals.

However, Plummer says she is not sure how much provincial funding available for other services.

She adds that bringing physicians to the area, and retaining them is a team effort.

She also explains that they don’t only need physicians on the family health team.

Plummer also mentioned physician recruitment is a challenge for all small communities, but they did recently add a new physician.
