A local politician’s petition to save the walleye in Haliburton County’s lakes is gaining momentum.
Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock M.P. Jamie Schmale’s online petition has well over 500 signatures since launching in mid-May.
Schmale says he wants to try a pilot project with walleye spawning beds in the Trent-Severn Waterway.
Schmale says he will present the petition to the Natural Resources and Fisheries Ministry once there are more signatures.
