Ground broken on new Minden Hills fire hall

Construction is underway for the new fire hall in Minden Hills.

Minden councilors were on site to break ground on the new facility last week.

The fire hall will be on Highway 35 just south of the Village of Minden next to the E.M.S. building.

Reeve Brent Devolin says fire crews will be able to leave the hall and get on the highway in under a minute.

At the fire hall’s current location on Pritchard Lane, trucks sometimes have to navigate through traffic to get to the highway.

Devolin says due to May’s flooding, construction was delayed but he expects construction of the new hall will be done early next year at the latest.

Devolin also mentioned the $1.9 million fire hall will be paid for without having to borrow money or raise taxes thanks in part to a budget surplus last year.
