Quit smoking workshop coming to Haliburton in August

A free workshop aimed at helping smokers kick the habit is coming to Haliburton on August 12.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health is bringing the province’s Smoking Treatment for Ontario Patients program, also known as S.T.O.P. to town.

H.K.P.R. Public Health Nurse Karen Taylor says participants will learn many things about what triggers smoking.

Taylor says some participants may qualify for up to five weeks of free nicotine patches.

Patches can cost anywhere from $60-$80 per month depending on the usage and brand according to Taylor.

She adds you need to call the H.K.P.R. Health Unit and answer some questions to see if you qualify for the workshop or the free patches.

Call the health unit at 1-866-888-4577, extension 2240 to find out if you qualify.
