O.P.P. reminds pet owners that leaving animals unattended in vehicles is a crime

The Haliburton Highlands O.P.P. is warning residents not to keep their pets alone in their vehicle.

Community Safety Officer Dianna Dauphinee says the detachment received several calls from people noticing pets alone in vehicles in the county last month.

Dauphinee says call the O.P.P. if you see an animal unattended in a vehicle.

She also mentions you can be charged if police see a pet alone in a vehicle.

Dauphinee also points out that parking in the shade, or leaving the air conditioner on will not make it any safer for your pet.

She suggests leaving animals at home.
