County looking at LiDAR mapping to improve flood mitigation data

Haliburton County is looking for updated flood mitigation data.

The county wants to use a technology called Light Detection and Ranging, which is used with mapping.

The technology would give the county updated land measurements, which could help reduce the impacts of flooding when it comes to building around high risk flood zones.

Warden Brent Devolin says the landscape and climate has changed over the last decade.

Devolin adds the information would be useful to any property owner in the county.

The total cost of the technology would be just under $532,000 but the county plans to apply for federal funding, which would cover 50 per cent of the cost.
