New Minden Hills fire hall will cost more than expected

The new fire hall in Minden Hills will cost more to build than originally expected.

According to a fire department report shown to Minden council, the bill will go up by $115,628.82.

The soil on the site is not suitable for building, so engineered soil needed to be ordered so the building would be on a more solid base.

Mayor Brent Devolin says there were other additions to the project.

Devolin adds some budget variations on large scale projects are common.

The new cost for the fire hall just south of Minden on Highway 35 will be $1,907,243.67.

Devolin adds he expects the new building to be ready for use before the spring.

The extra cost will be included in next year’s budget.
