OPP investigating letter that threatens area beaches

The Huntsville OPP is investigating a letter that threatens beaches from “Toronto to North Bay.”

The letter, which was sent to the Huntsville Forester, claims to be from a group called the Islamic Revolutionary Force.

The OPP has confirmed the letter’s existence, saying it will be using “all required resources” to determine if the letter is genuine.

The letter, which was published by the Forester, makes a number of claims, including that the group used snowmobiles to “easily and effectively” destroy local beaches over the winter and make them “all but unusable.”

It goes on to threaten to destroy the tourism industry because “you reject Islam and follow The Great Satan”, among other claims.

The OPP says more information will only be released as the investigation moves forward.

In the meantime the OPP is asking anyone with information about the letter, or who sees anything suspicious going on around area beaches, to call them at 1-888-310-1122 or 705-789-5551, or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
