Haliburton’s first Fire Chief to be commemorated with plaque

Haliburton’s first Fire Chief is having a plaque dedicated to his sacrifice. Almost 70 years ago, Thomas Chambers was appointed fire chief in a department of six volunteers. While trying to fight a fire that destroyed the local Bank of Montreal on the main street, Chambers died on March 12th in 1956. Almost 60 years later, the Dysart Fire Department is dedicating a plaque to Chambers. The unveiling ceremony will happen on March 12th at one o’clock at the village square.
