HALIBURTON COUNTY, ON – Another week of clean beaches.
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit announced yesterday that all 18 of the beaches they test across the county are safe for swimming.
Every week, the health unit tests the waters at each beach to learn whether or not the bacteria count in the water is within acceptable levels at outlined by the Ontario government’s Beach Management Protocol.

Health unit communications officer bill Eekhof explained in an email to the MyHaliburtonNow.com newsroom, that swimming in lakes always carries some risk. He says there are things that people can look out for while they are deciding whether or not to swim.
Algae, floating debris, oil, discoloured water, bad odours and excessive weed growth are other potential signs that the beach may be unsafe for swimming.
Prolonged hot weather can promote the growth of bacteria in the water, as can the actual water temperature.
Not included in the regular testing is Rotary Beach.
