Local initiatives underway to support Syrian refugees

Syrian refugees could soon be calling Haliburton County and surrounding areas home. Efforts are being made to support individuals and families.

The Haliburton Refugee Sponsorship Committee has raised close to $9,000, and they think it will take about $30,000 to bring in a family.

To find out more about the Haliburton Refugee Sponsorship Committee, go to their website.

The St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Haliburton is also coordinating efforts with surrounding churches. The Cambridge Street United Church in Lindsay is leading the charge. They’ve already been able to secure dental services for incoming refugees, and they’re hoping to find a doctor to do the same They are also contacting local schools to prepare for incoming children.
