A local boy has been drafted to the OHL.

Owen Smith was chosen by the Flint Firebirds in the 13th round this past Saturday during the Ontario Hockey League’s Priority Selection.

The grade 10 student from Haliburton Highlands Secondary School says this opens a lot of doors for his career.

Smith started playing hockey with the Highland Storm Minor Hockey Association, and then played with the Central Ontario Wolves for four years.

Most recently, he was playing for the AAA minor-midget team.

Smith says he isn’t getting ahead of himself just yet, because he still has to try out for the team.
