Lyme disease continues to be a growing reality in Haliburton County.

The Haliburton-Kawartha-Pine Ridge District Health Unit is encouraging residents to watch for blacklegged ticks.

Officials urge people to seek medical attention if they have symptoms of Lyme disease because it can be treated with antibiotics.

They suggest wearing light-coloured clothing to avoid bites.

Last year, the health unit collected 17 blacklegged ticks positive with the bacteria that cause Lyme disease.
