Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Pine Ridge District Health Unit is asking everyone to look before leaping into the water this summer.

Officials say visitors and locals should be on the lookout for beaches in Haliburton County that are posted as unsafe for swimming.

Starting this week, staff from the health unit will take weekly water samples at 18 public beaches in the area.

The samples will be tested for high levels of bacteria which could make swimmers sick.

They say the results will be posted on Thursday or early Friday each week through the summer.
