The City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton County just released the results of the 20,000 Homes Campaign registry week.

During August 22nd, and August 24th, volunteers surveyed residents without permanent homes.

CEO of Kawartha Lakes-Haliburton Housing Corporation Hope Lee says 112 people participated in the survey, and 26 of them need immediate housing in Haliburton County.

Lee says 44 per cent of the participants have experienced homelessness for six months or longer.

She says 81 of the individuals have visited the ER nearly 250 times in the last six months.

Lee says the next step is to create cost-effective ways to home these vulnerable people.
