A new partnership hopes for natural gas in Haliburton County

A new partnership is calling on the provincial government to bring natural gas to Haliburton County.

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture has teamed up with the Eastern and Western Ontario Warden’s Caucus to represent rural Ontario ratepayers, businesses and farms.

OFA President Don McCabe says electricity changed lives and businesses, and we need the same action on natural gas.

McCabe says this would be a positive change for our economy.

He says this investment would save Ontarians more than $1 billion annually in energy savings. Those savings could be used to stimulate our economy and create jobs.

McCabe says they are asking the government to develop a public invested program to install new natural gas pipeline across rural Ontario

He thinks it will take 20 years to meet natural gas demands in our area.
