‘Keep the heat on’ against proposed OPP billing model

County councilors say we need to keep the heat on when it comes to fighting the proposed OPP billing model.

OPP Staff Sergeant Cathy Bell and Sgt. Liane Spong addressed council at yesterday’s meeting. Bell emphasized the model is developing and all concerns are being heard and brought back to the minister.

County treasurer Laura Janke said the proposed model is extremely flawed and urged OPP to go back to the drawing board. Following the delegation, Councilor Liz Danielsen says she doesn’t think any of council’s six pages of questions were answered.

Council agreed mail outs to residents will go out within the next month. Councilor Carol Moffatt also gave notice of a Call to Action Day set for May 1.

Council unanimously agreed their issues would be better addressed by the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Plans are in the making to hold a delegation with the Minister, banding together with the Kawartha Lakes and Muskoka counties.
