EORN asks Minden Hills to get on board with a funding program

EORN is asking members of Minden Hills council if they are interested in a federal broadband funding program.

In the last federal budget, the government announced a new $500 million, five-year broadband program. Manager of IT Mike March says the details haven’t been released, but he expects it will be a grant for fibre infrastructures in rural communities.

March says he wants to gather data now in case there is a short turnaround time for submissions once the government announces the grant.

Reeve Brent Devolin wants to first see if ratepayers will benefit from fiber sites.

EORN is not asking for a commitment right now from council, just an understanding of its level of interest in this grant.

If council says yes, it will be added to their budget process.

March says once the grant details are released, he will submit another report to the municipality for further discussion.
