Harvest Haliburton is asking residents to make their voices heard by asking for local sustainable food.
The committee says businesses will respond to market demand. The organization’s goal is to develop a sustainable local food system for community members.
They have completed three Community Food Assessment Reports, and presented the findings and recommendations to the municipalities in Haliburton County, including county council.
Harvest Haliburton has provided input around food systems into the official plan reviews for Haliburton County and Dysart et al. They will be approaching Algonquin Highland to advocate for food policy change. This is because the township’s official plan is up for review this year.
Right now the committee is focusing on a communication strategy and a local food production strategy.
