The OPP kicks off its campaign for the holiday season

The Haliburton Highlands OPP is reminding every resident any amount of alcohol can impair someone’s ability to drive.

The Festive R.I.D.E. campaign began on November 21st, and will finish on January 7th. This is an effective initiative to address the road safety issue of impaired driving.

Officials say drunk driving remains the leading criminal cause of death in Canada. Having ‘one too many’ is a crime as soon as you get behind the wheel. Our local OPP says one drink can reduce your ability to concentrate, and slow your reaction time.

They say drivers who blow over the legal limit, or refuse a breath test will have their driver’s license suspended immediately for 90 days. Their vehicle will also be impounded for seven days.

Plan ahead if you’re going to drink plan, and arrange for a designated driver.
