The Haliburton-Kawartha-Pine Ridge District Health Unit is encouraging parents to lead by example by never using a hand-held device while driving.

It says youth between 16 and 24 years old would be more willing to learn about the risks of texting and driving if it came from their parents.

The health unit says it’s important to teach youth to avoid distracted driving, as the leading cause of injuries and deaths for teens is collisions on the road.
