AMO addresses OPP billing model with Haliburton County councilors

Four of Haliburton County’s councillor were in attendance today when a last minute webinar with AMO (Association of Municipalities of Ontario) was announced. The meeting was held to discuss a report released concerning the proposed OPP billing model.
The Steering Committee report was released yesterday outlining the new model and the committee’s advice and recommendations about implementation.
Haliburton County’s CAO, Laura Janke was also in attendance, asking questions to AMO concerning the report.
Councilors discussed the comments being made by AMO, frequently pointing out the falsity of some of the information brought forward.
AMO highlighted parts of the report, insinuating the entire Steering Committee had arrived at its conclusions together. However, councilor Barb Reid who sat on the committee, made reference that the recommendations of the report were not unanimously decided.
Councilors did not feel all of their questions were answered and are continuing to push the issue.
Reid says this is why the Day of Action on May 1 is so important.
Council is asking residents to flood the Minister and Premiere’s office on this day with phone calls, faxes, emails and tweets to oppose the proposed OPP billing model that would result in significant tax increases for Haliburton County residents.
