The new immigration ban in the US could affect Canadians, and now our local MPP is weighing in. Since President Donald Trump announced his temporary ban on citizens entering the States from seven countries, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said all refugees are welcome in Canada. However, there are a lot of questions surrounding that statement, and the MPP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, Laurie Scott, says she thinks it will be a temporary measure. Scott says over the next few days a lot of these issues will be worked out.
Scott says the country does need to help those in need right now, but hopes there will be strong security checks for the refugees coming into Canada.
