The OPP is warning you about a financial scam that’s made its way to the area. Police say scammers have been pretending to be with a bank or credit card company, and calling residents to tell them their personal information has been compromised. The scammer then asks for confirmation of credit card and SIN numbers. The calls are often made early in the morning or late in the evening, and are often followed up with an e-mail which could install a virus on your computer. Police say, if this happens to you, you should find the bank or credit card company’s phone number yourself, and call them to verify the claim.
