Watch for animals on the roads as the number of wildlife related car crashes is going up

The number of car crashes involving deer is on the rise. The Haliburton Highlands OPP says over the past week, there have been 18 collisions with wildlife. The majority are deer, but one crash was with a bear.

The OPP says now that the weather is starting to turn, more animals will be out by the roadside. If you see a deer on the road, don’t try and veer around it. Slow down, honk your horn, and wait until it moves on.

Wildlife is generally more active at dawn and dusk.
