County council to consider recommendations for Poverty Reduction Strategy

Thirteen recommendations have been taken to county council for the poverty reduction strategy. Steering Committee member Mike Perry addressed council Apr. 23 to submit the recommendations.

The County of Haliburton and the City of Kawartha Lakes have been working together on the strategy. Perry presented the extensive research and public consultations that were conducted to determine what is needed in the communities.

The committee’s recommendations include things like increasing transportation offered by social service agencies, designating public seats on school buses, and encouraging grocery stores, pharmacies, or food banks to offer delivery at a small fee.

County council received the report and put it forward for further consideration.
