Start thinking about getting an emergency kit together

Emergency Preparedness Week begins today and local officials are reminding everyone to have a plan in place. The Haliburton-Kawartha-Pine Ridge District Health Unit says you should have an emergency kit that will hold you over for 72 hours.

Emergency Preparedness Coordinator with the health unit, Carol Chan, says it could come in handy when there’s flooding, extended blackouts, or extreme weather.

The province has a public warning system in place to let the area know when emergencies happen. That include notifications for incoming storms and potential disasters. Go to the Be Prepared website for more details and to sign up.
