OPP reminding drivers to watch for deer

Deer are active this time of year, and the Haliburton Highlands OPP is reminding drivers to keep an eye out.  If you see a deer on the road, don’t swerve to avoid it. Instead, hit your brakes and flash your high beams if it’s at night.

The OPP says they can be unpredictable and can twist, jump, or zig-zag to avoid danger. That means you can’t predict what direction they’ll go in, but the chances are they won’t stay in the same spot.

The police also note the animals are more active at dusk and dawn, so be extra alert and watch the sides of the roads.
