Haliburton County received a United Nations designation for sustainability education in large part thanks to Abbey Gardens.

The county was recognized as a Regional Centre of Expertise two weeks ago because of its progress towards creating green jobs.

Gardens Operating Manager Heather Reid says they love to teach visitors about agriculture.

The main component for being an R.C.E. is education on green initiatives.

Reid says they have a garden quest that is very popular with children.

According to Reid a couple of tenants at the gardens also teach the public about the green economy.

She says Haliburton Solar and Wind has a big educational component.

Reid reminds us that Abbey Gardens offers educational program for people of all ages.
