Farmers Market wants to remain in Minden municipal parking lot

The Haliburton County Farmers Market Association wants to remain in the Minden municipal parking lot.

Speaking on behalf of the H.C.F.M.A. Chairperson Angel Taylor told Minden council vendors overwhelmingly support staying where they are.

In a letter to the committee of the whole, staff suggested the farmers market be relocated to the fairgrounds.

Staff sited the market’s request for more space, traffic and parking issues as well as pedestrian safety as their primary concerns.

Due to the flood in May, the market was moved to the fairgrounds for two weeks.

According to their report, vendors had over 700 visitors to the fairgrounds, versus well over 1,100 visitors in two weeks at the municipal parking lot.

Council will allow the farmers market to remain in the parking lot for the rest of the year.

The market is every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
