Minden Hills forced to spend nearly $30,000 by province for remedial work at Scotch Line landfill

Minden Hills will have to spend almost $30,000 to rectify a few issues at the Scotch Line landfill.

After site inspections in May and June, Ontario’s Ministry of Environment issued a remedial work order to the township.

The order calls for reduction of construction and demolition waste and leachate remediation.

Leachate forms when water comes in contact with waste.

Reeve Brent Devolin says council is unanimous in realizing change is needed.

Devolin also says dollars and cents will have a big say in their future plans.

Council decided at a special meeting this week to spend the money to immediately do some remedial work.

Devolin says Minden Hills has strong reserves so there will be no strain on the budget.
