A Minden resident who trademarked the name “Haliburton” is giving the trademark to the county.
Businessman Michael Stinson, who owned the trademark, agreed this afternoon to re-assign the trademark to Haliburton County.
Warden Brent Devolin says this is the ideal outcome.
Devolin added that a lawsuit could have been costly.

Stinson says he did not ask for any money to re-assign the trademark.
He applied for the trademark in 2015 and it was approved earlier this year.
However, according to the Trade-marks Act, geographical places cannot be registered.
