Health Unit says keep an eye out for blacklegged ticks

The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge Health Unit is warning the public about blacklegged ticks.

Some of the ticks can carry Lyme disease, according to H.K.P.R. Environmental Health Manager Richard Ovcharovich.

He says a good way to avoid tick bites is to cover up when you are outside.

Ovcharovich also suggests using bug spray with deet as well.

He says if you think a tick has been on you for 24 hours, you should see a doctor right away.

He adds that if caught early, Lyme disease can be treated with antibiotics.
