Laurie Scott says she does not want to see the H.S.T. increase.
The Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock M.P.P. was at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s conference where lower level politicians asked for a one per cent increase in the tax.
Councilors, reeves and mayors at A.M.O. asked the province to raise the H.S.T. and pass that onto municipalities to help tackle a nearly $5 billion dollar infrastructure deficit.
Scott says the problem with the current municipal funding system is it penalizes districts that report a surplus.
Scott adds tweaking the system for municipal funding would make more sense than raising taxes, which she adds would make life more expensive for Ontarians than it already is.
