Highlands East sets out policies and fees for solar projects

Highlands East Council has approved policies and procedures surrounding solar projects in the municipality.

The municipality says it supports solar projects as alternative ways to generate power, although you will have to follow some guidelines to put up panels. Those looking to put solar panels on their roof will need approval from the Chief Building Official and will have to pay the cost of the application, and may even have to pay the price of a ‘Site Plan Approval.’

A number of guidelines around ‘Ground Mount Solar’ projects have also been approved. These projects will need council approval, with application fees ranging in price from $350 to $2,000 depending on their size.
