Health Services and Haliburton County team up to add new paramedic

Haliburton County will be getting a new paramedic in October.

Haliburton Highlands Health Services applied to Ontario’s Health Ministry for funding towards the Community Paramedicine program, which is in its infancy stages.

The county’s Paramedic Services department would work closely with H.H.H.S.

The new paramedic will be doing wellness and safety checks on senior residents in Haliburton.

County Chief of Paramedic Services Tim Waite says this new initiative could be helpful in cutting emergency room wait times.

Haliburton was one of two successful applications in the province, and the money will cover the new paramedic and some new equipment

The plan is for the new paramedic to start in mid to late October but H.H.H.S. and the county still need to hammer out an agreement on program specifics.
