Online paddle auction opens next week

Over 100 paddles have been decorated, and now the bidding begins.

Algonquin Outfitters has closed its Paddle Art contest, which is to support local arts initiatives. Marketing Director Randy Mitson says 170 paddles were painted, carved, embellished and even knitted and soon you can bid on the one you like the most.

He says the online auction will open up next week, and all of the money raised will go into two different charities, one of which is the Oxtongue Lake for Arts and Culture.

Mitson says the other charity is Huntsville’s reserve fund for future public art acquisitions, because the town has let the closing event run at the Algonquin Theatre in September.

He says he had a goal of collecting 100 paddles for the contest.

The online auction opens next week and closes on September 29th.
