Minden Hills to purchase insurance to make township facilities accessible to small groups and individuals

The Township of Minden Hills doesn’t want insurance to be an obstacle for individuals and groups.

Minden has decided to purchase an insurance policy so groups and people can use municipal facilities.

The policy is quoted at just under $2,500 and will provide up to $5 million in liability coverage.

Reeve Brent Devolin says the cost of insurance could be out of reach for some groups and individuals.

Under current regulations, if someone wants to rent a municipal facility, the person must provide proof of insurance, or ask the township to waive the requirement.

Devolin adds council will have a discussion at a future meeting to decide whether to charge a rate to facility users or to absorb the entire cost.
