Proposed fencing at community centre causing controversy in Minden Hills

Proposed building of a fence on the Irondale Community Centre property line is raising controversy in the Township of Minden Hills.

A request was brought forward from the Irondale Community Centre Advisory Committee for a fence on the west side of the building to help with events like the ball tournament.

At yesterday’s Committee of the Whole Meeting, council heard from property owners of the lot beside the location of the fence who said the fence is unnecessary and a waste of taxpayer’s money. The committee requested fence would cost about $8,500.00.

Councilors agreed to go back to the Community Centre Committee with a request for alternative fencing ideas. The decision has been postponed until assessments can be made about how events run without the use of a fence.
