H.K.P.R. wants to see provincial health care include dental services

The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit wants to see health care include dental work.

H.K.P.R. asked Haliburton County council for its support in petitioning the province to expand health care to include oral health.

H.K.P.R. Health Promoter Anna Rusak says giving grants to organizations that provide dental services to low income people and families would be a good place to start.

According to a report from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, 210 people in the county had to visit the emergency room in 210 for tooth related issues.

Rusak adds the emergency room visits are costing the health system money while being unable to treat patients for tooth issues.

The report also said the E.R. visits in Haliburton in 2015 due to dental problems cost $107,730.
