Lack of opportunities for funding under provincial gas tax program frustrating to county politicians

Haliburton County politicians are not impressed with the provincial gas tax program.

Council discussed the program at yesterday’s meeting, which gives a portion of the gas tax to municipalities for public transit.

Warden Brent Devolin says the county’s municipalities receive a tiny portion of the Ontario gas tax.

Devolin adds the criteria make it extremely difficult for Haliburton’s four municipalities to qualify for funding.

Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes, Brock M.P.P. says she and her conservative colleagues have been asking the government to make the distribution of the gas tax more fair to rural Ontario.
