A heat bank for Haliburton County is definitely in place for the winter. Gelert resident John Teljeur says he saw too many people across the county without heat this past winter because they couldn’t afford it.
He says there were a few local agencies helping those needs in the community, but thought it would be more effective for them to come together.
Partnering with Haliburton Coordinator for A Place Called Home, Tina Jackson, they approached the agencies in the area to combine efforts and create a county wide heat bank. Teljeur says it will include providing wood and fuel for people during the winter months.
They’ve already started collecting wood and Teljeur says they will be ready to go when the winter comes. The group is always looking for wood donations or agencies who want to get involved.
