Reeve Murray Fearrey says legalization of marijuana has been poorly planned

Murray Fearrey is worried about how the upcoming legalization of marijuana will affect the municipality.

The Dysart et al Reeve says he and his colleagues have no idea how much legalizing pot will stretch municipal budgets.

Fearrey says even though recreational marijuana will be legal by Canada Day, lower tier politicians are still in the dark when it comes to budget planning and creating bylaws.

Fearrey expects policing costs will rise.

He is not expecting municipalities to benefit from pot taxes.

Haliburton County Warden Brent Devolin said earlier this week that politicians will have a chance to question officials from Queen’s Park about legalization.
