Highlands East will be helping the Haliburton County Heat Bank apply for a federal grant.
The heat bank helps residents who need assistance paying their energy and heating bills.
Program Coordinator Tina Jackson says the heat bank is going for $10,000 from Ottawa, which can help approximately 25 households get through the winter.
Jackson says since the heat bank is still waiting to become an official charity, it needs the support of council to request additional money.
The heat bank provides fuel to low-income families in need.
Jackson adds the cost of living is rising much quicker than fixed incomes.
Jackson says the heat back has approximately 230 clients.
