K.L.H. Housing Corporation adding secondary suite program to bring more affordable housing to Haliburton

The Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton Housing Corporation wants to see more affordable rental units in the county.

K.L.H. C.E.O. Hope Lee says the organization offers a program that will give up to $10,000 to homeowners who build a self-contained apartment in their single or semi-detached property to rent out.

Lee says K.L.H. wants to see a program that helps both homeowners and perspective tenants.

As part of the program, the homeowner must offer a monthly rent at maximum 80 per cent of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corportation average.

The C.M.H.C. doesn’t have stats for Haliburton County but Kawartha Lakes’ average rent is $987 as of 2016.

Anyone wanting to apply for funding to build a secondary suite can do so starting April 1^st.
