Financial audit of Minden Hills paints a positive picture

Minden Hills is in good financial shape heading into 2018.

That’s according to an auditor’s report shown to council yesterday which painted a positive picture heading into next year.

Among the highlights of the report are healthy reserves and the fact that less than one per cent of the township’s revenue comes from federal and provincial grants, which means it is less reliant on outside revenue streams.

Despite that, Mayor Brent Devolin says Minden will have its share of challenges going forward.

One area of concern in the report is some of the township’s buildings are getting older.

Devolin adds the S.G. Nesbitt Memorial Arena will be undergoing a major renovation as soon as next year.

He says taking on debt for the project could lead to more government grants.
