Algonquin Highlands and its landfill company will begin negotiations on a new deal in 2018.

Council and the company managing the landfills agreed to extend the contract until March 31st.

Due to the minimum wage rising to $14 an hour on January 1st, it will cost the township over $2,500 more compared to the same period this year.

Mayor Carol Moffatt says the township and contractor will start negotiations in February.

It will cost Algonquin Highlands a total of $21,098 for the first three months of next year.
