What do you know about algae? The Watershed Council wants to find out

It’s not a glamorous topic, but it’s an important one. That’s what Muskoka’s Director of Environmental and Watershed Programs, Christy Doyle, says about algae. The Muskoka Watershed Council is looking for more responses on its 2017 Algae Survey, which is being done in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations, Queens University and Nipissing University.

Doyle says a similar survey was done in the 80’s to see what people knew about algae in Muskoka, Haliburton and beyond, and to find out what people were seeing in their lakes. She says the organizations decided to refine and revamp that survey, which is what has been released now.

Doyle says the ministry will look at and analyze the answers, and then the watershed can work with them to see what works need to be done on the education side.

All of Haliburton can fill out the survey online.
